DAVID PAULUS

Trainer

David Paulus first got started in mantrailing in 2008 when he was asked to join a Wisconsin search and recovery team. Realizing that the team’s trailing K9’s were not effective, he brought in Jeff Schettler for a seminar. From this time forward David has been training in the GAK9 style.

In March 2017 David met Jeff Hakanson, the head of GAK9’s Chicago Branch, at GAK9 NTC during a one week basic trailing course that David was attending with his new K9. Jeff and David have been training together ever since, and in that time David has assisted Jeff in preparing multiple K9-handler teams to certify. Additionally, David participated at GAK9’s Swiss Police Trainer School on Edisto Island for the urban trailing week.

Beyond trailing, David has been studying obedience and detection under Jeff Hakanson since 2017. He also serves on the board of directors of the Hovawart Club of North America.

David served in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1988 to 1998. He saw active duty in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and last served as the Platoon Sergeant for Surveillance and Target Acquisition Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines.
