Jan Navrátil
Trainer
Czech Republic
My interest in K-9 work and training began in early 2016, when I first learned about mantrailing and began attending mantrailing trainings, events and GAK9 seminars first as an observer and since 2018 as an active handler with my first trailing dog Polly.
Soon I got an opportunity to train other teams and to get experience with more dogs, handlers and their specific needs and issues. In January 2021 I founded my own training group, Trailing Team Brno, and started training teams on a regular basis. At the same time I continued my own training with GAK9 trainer Christoph Rosenberger and attended seminars with other trainers. In 2023 I trained with Jeff Schettler at a Vienna seminar, which was another milestone in my trailing training.
I also take a great interest in the history and development of trailing/tracking, especially as related to military and law enforcement. I am also interested in detection and scent theory. Apart from GAK9 certifications, I took IGP certifications in lost object search with my dog.
Since childhood I’ve been fascinated by military history, especially WW2 and the Thirty Years’ War. As a member of a re-enactment group I travelled almost all European countries. Trailing and its history brought me to an active interest in the Vietnam war history, especially in the Combat Tracker Teams training and deployment.
